Votes for MoroccoThe short answer
March to May, or September and October. Warm without the summer heat, and the mountain roads are still open.
Marrakesh is the arrival, not the trip. The Atlas mountains, Chefchaouen and the Atlantic at Essaouira are what people actually remember.

Nonstop times from a few big hubs, to give you a sense of the distance. We have no idea which airport you are actually leaving from. Fares move weekly, so we leave those out.
When you land
- Airport to townThe airport is fifteen minutes from the medina. Agree the taxi fare before getting in, or take bus 19 to Jemaa el-Fnaa.
- Cash or cardCash. Dirhams cannot legally leave the country, so spend or change them before you fly.
- Getting onlineMaroc Telecom or Orange, cheap, sold at the airport and in every town.
- What catches people outAnyone who offers to walk you to a tannery or back to the square. It ends at a shop and a fee.
What not to miss in Morocco
- Getting lost in the Fes medinaNine thousand streets, no cars, and the oldest one still working anywhere.
- The Atlas mountainsAn hour from Marrakesh and twenty degrees cooler. Imlil for a day, Toubkal for a week.
- One night in the SaharaMerzouga or Zagora. A long drive, and the sky at the end of it is the reason.
- Essaouira for the windAtlantic, fortified, full of seafood, and the antidote to three days in a medina.
