Dubrovnik takes a day and costs the most. The islands between Split and Hvar, and Plitvice and Krka inland, are where the country actually is.

When you land
- Airport to townThe airport bus meets the flights and reaches Split in about 30 minutes. The ferry port is on the same waterfront.
- Cash or cardEuros since 2023. Cards are widely taken, but carry cash for the smaller islands.
- Getting onlineA prepaid SIM from A1 or Hrvatski Telekom is cheap and quick.
- What catches people outFerry timetables shrink out of season, and the last boat back is earlier than you think.
What not to miss in Croatia
- Island hopping from SplitHvar, Vis and Korcula on the public ferries. No tour needed and the fares are low.
- Plitvice at openingSixteen lakes falling into each other. By eleven the boardwalks are a queue.
- The Dubrovnik walls, early or lateFirst hour or last hour, in the shade. In between it is a coach park.
- Konoba food, inlandPeka cooked under an iron bell, ordered a day ahead in a village tavern.
