When you land
- Airport to townThe airport is twenty minutes out. Bolt is cheap and skips the haggling, and there is a train a few times a day.
- Cash or cardCash for markets and mountain guesthouses, cards fine in Tbilisi.
- Getting onlineMagti or Silknet, very cheap, sold at the airport.
- What catches people outMountain roads close without much warning in winter, and the shared minibuses will still set off.
What not to miss in Georgia
- Wine from a qvevri in KakhetiBuried clay pots, eight thousand years old as a method, and nothing else tastes like it.
- Kazbegi and the church on the ridgeThree hours from Tbilisi on the military highway, and the drive is half of it.
- Adjarian khachapuriA bread boat of cheese and butter with an egg stirred in. Order one between two people.
- The Svaneti towersMedieval stone towers under five thousand metre peaks, and a four day walk between the villages.
